I find my inspiration in nature – the infinite range of colors, lines, shapes and atmosphere. As I study a scene, my attention is always drawn to light and its effects. I strive to capture the luminosity in a variety of ways. As I paint, I build the surface of my work by applying multiple layers of oil paint (and sometimes cold wax), retaining previous marks and colors, while leaving trace results of others, or obscuring them altogether. My approach strives to create a depth and history which results in a complex and nuanced surface of color, harmony and balance.
